Over the past 16 years of living in and visiting Japan, I’ve grown slightly obsessed with umbrellas. Maybe it’s connected to my love for the film ‘Bladerunner’, which had the most atmospheric scenes in the rain.
I’ve shot through many typhoon seasons, autumn and winter rains. The scenes in Japan, especially in Tokyo at night, make for a fascinating photographic subject. The neon, transparent umbrellas and visual atmosphere of Tokyo is a wonderful mixture.
The umbrella photos I’ve shot over the years have been featured in various national and overseas publications.
This is an old gallery but it’ll give you a flavour of the umbrella stuff I’ve shot.
As I continue to update this site, there’ll be more recent shots to see.
